What is the difference between JET shop bench grinders and JET industrial bench grinders?

JET shop bench grinders (JBG series) are built for general sharpening and deburring in a home shop or light production setting. JET industrial bench grinders (IBG series) are built for heavier daily use with more durable construction and larger wheel capacity. If you use the machine every day, the IBG series is the better fit.

What does a variable speed bench grinder do differently?

Variable speed lets you slow the wheel down for sharpening heat-sensitive tools like chisels, plane irons, and knives. Running at lower speeds reduces friction and heat buildup, which helps protect the temper of the steel. The JET IBG-8VS is the variable speed option in the industrial line.

What is the advantage of a bench grinder and belt sander combo?

A combo unit gives you wheel grinding and belt sanding on a single machine within the same footprint. This is useful for shops that do both rough shaping and finer surface finishing on metal without wanting two separate machines on the bench. JET offers four combo models — the IBGB-248, IBGB-248VS, IBGB-436, and IBGB-436VS.

Do any JET bench grinders come with a floor stand?

Yes. The JET JBG-8A and JET JBG-10A include a matching floor stand. Standalone stands are also available separately as accessories if you want to add one to a grinder you already own.
