What is a DVR lathe?

DVR stands for Digital Variable Reluctance. The spindle is part of the motor, so there are no belts or pulleys, and the motor adjusts power to hold your set speed under load. The Neptune, Neptune Max, Neutron, and Nebula use it. The Comet II uses a belt drive with a three-step pulley.

Which Nova lathe is best for turning large bowls?

The Nebula 18" DVR has the most capacity, with an 18" swing, a 2.5 HP motor, and a 530 lb cast iron stand that keeps big blanks steady. The Neutron offers a 17" swing and 2 HP. Both support outboard turning with an optional outrigger.

What size Nova lathe do I need for long spindle work like table legs?

Look at distance between centers. The Neptune Max offers 28", the Nebula 25", and the Neutron 24". The Comet II has 16.5" and the Neptune has 18". Both accept an optional bed extension for longer work.
