Powermatic Planers FAQs

What is the difference between a straight-knife and helical head Powermatic planer?

Straight-knife planers use high-speed steel knives across the full cutting width and are reliable workhorses for general milling. Helical head planers use staggered carbide insert rows to produce quieter cutting, cleaner surfaces on hardwoods and figured grain, and easier knife maintenance, you rotate a single insert rather than replace a full knife set.

What Powermatic planer knives and accessories are available?

Do Powermatic planers require three-phase power?

Not all of them. The Powermatic 15HH, Powermatic 209, Powermatic 209HH, and Powermatic 201HH are available in single-phase configurations. The Powermatic 201 and Powermatic WP2510 require three-phase power.
