Choosing a Powermatic Wide Belt Sander for Your Shop

The right Powermatic wide belt sander comes down to belt width and the stock widths your shop runs most. Use the guide below to match each model to your work.

Powermatic Wide Belt Sanders FAQs

What is the difference between the WB-25, WB-37, and WB-43?

The main difference is belt width. The WB-25 handles stock up to 25", the WB-37 handles up to 37", and the WB-43 handles up to 43". All three use a three-motor system and include a digital thickness readout.

What power supply do Powermatic wide belt sanders require?

All three models require 3-phase power. The WB-25 and WB-37 are available in 230/460V or 460V-only configurations. The WB-43 follows the same pattern. These are not suitable for single-phase shop wiring.

What does the auto thicknesser do on a Powermatic wide belt sander?

The auto thicknesser captures the starting thickness of each board before sanding begins. This gives you an accurate starting point so you can dial in your target thickness without extra test passes

What grit belts work with Powermatic wide belt sanders?

Powermatic wide belt sanders use standard wide belts matched to the machine's width — 25"×75" for the WB-25. Grit selection depends on the material and the finish you need. Check the manual for belt size specs on the WB-37 and WB-43 before ordering.
