Oliver Spindle Sanders FAQs

What’s the real difference between the Oliver 6905 and 6910?

The 6905 is a benchtop sander suited for small and mid-size parts where space and quick setup matter.

The 6910 is a heavy floor model built for longer shaping sessions, larger workpieces, and better stability under load. Its added weight and larger cast-iron table help it stay planted during big jobs, giving you smoother control and a cleaner finish.

Most shops choose the 6905 for occasional sanding and the 6910 when they need steady performance through full-day work.

Do I need different spindle sizes for certain shaping jobs?

Yes. Small drums handle tight inside curves, while larger drums support broad radiuses and smoother transitions. If you’re running into chatter, burning, or uneven support, a different spindle size or the correct table insert usually solves the problem. We carry the full range of Oliver spindles and inserts made for each machine.

How does dust collection work on Oliver spindle sanders?

Both models include a dedicated dust port that pulls debris from the sanding area to keep the cut cleaner and improve visibility. The 6905 uses a 2" port with a 4" adapter, and the 6910 uses a full 4" port for stronger airflow. If you need help choosing a dust collector that matches your shop size, we can walk you through the options.
