Choosing a JET Bench Buffer for Your Shop

Finding the right JET bench buffer comes down to wheel size, motor power, and whether variable speed control fits your work. Use the guide below to match each model to your finishing needs.

JET IBG-8 8" Industrial Bench Buffer

  • Wheel size: 8"
  • Motor: 1HP, 1-Phase
  • Shaft diameter: 5/8"

A solid entry-level industrial buffer for shops that need steady, high-volume buffing and polishing without variable speed.

JET IBG-8VSB 8" Variable Speed Industrial Bench Buffer

  • Wheel size: 8"
  • Motor: 1HP, 1-Phase
  • Shaft diameter: 5/8"

The right step up for shops that need to match RPM to the material and bring the wheel to a full stop quickly between tasks.

JET IBG-10 10" Industrial Bench Buffer

  • Wheel size: 10"
  • Motor: 1-1/2HP, 1-Phase
  • Shaft diameter: 1"

A mid-size upgrade for shops running full production days that need more motor and a larger wheel without moving to 230V power.

JET IBG-12 12" Industrial Bench Buffer

  • Wheel size: 12"
  • Motor: 2HP, 1-Phase, 230V
  • Shaft diameter: 1-1/4"

JET's most powerful bench buffer — built for production shops that run larger wheels through hard finishing materials all day.

JET Bench Buffers FAQs

What is the difference between the JET IBG-8 and the IBG-8VSB?

The JET IBG-8 runs at a fixed 3,600 RPM. The JET IBG-8VSB adds variable speed control across a wide RPM range and a brake resistor that stops the wheel in under 20 seconds. Choose the IBG-8VSB if your work requires matching speed to the material or stopping the wheel quickly between tasks.

What wheel size do JET industrial bench buffers accept?

Wheel size varies by model. The IBG-8 and IBG-8VSB accept 8" wheels on a 5/8" shaft. The IBG-10 accepts 10" wheels on a 1" shaft. The IBG-12 accepts 12" wheels on a 1-1/4" shaft. Check your current wheel arbor size before choosing a model.

Does the JET IBG-12 require 230V power?

Yes. The JET IBG-12 12" Industrial Bench Buffer runs on a 2HP, single-phase, 230V motor. Verify your shop has a 230V outlet available before ordering. The IBG-8 and IBG-10 models run on standard 115V power.

What makes JET industrial bench buffers different from standard shop buffers?

JET industrial bench buffers use cast iron construction, oversized motor shafts, heavy retainer plates, and massive lock nuts sized for sustained daily use. Standard shop buffers use lighter components that wear faster under production loads. The result is a more stable platform, more consistent wheel contact, and fewer interruptions during long finishing runs.
