Nova Drill Presses FAQs

What is a DVR motor?

Nova’s DVR (Digital Variable Reluctance) motor is a direct-drive system with no belts or pulleys. It uses onboard software to keep torque steady, reduce vibration, and hold speed under load. The result is smoother drilling, cleaner holes, and simple speed changes.

Can a Nova DVR drill press run Forstner bits, hole saws, and other large bits?

Yes. All Nova drill presses include a 5/8" chuck and variable speed control, which allows you to run common woodworking and metalworking bits— including Forstner bits and hole saws—at their appropriate speeds.

What power requirements do Nova drill presses have?

All Nova drill presses run on standard 110–120V household power. Always check your shop’s circuit capacity and follow the electrical guidelines in the Nova user manual to ensure safe operation.

Are Nova DVR drill presses quieter than traditional belt-drive presses?

Yes. Because DVR motors do not use belts or pulleys, they eliminate belt vibration and belt noise. Users typically notice a smoother and quieter operating sound compared to conventional belt-drive drill presses.
