What is the difference between the Oliver 10047 and the Oliver 4705 shaper?

The Oliver 10047 is the more compact, versatile option with either a 3HP or 5HP TEFC motor and four spindle speeds—ideal for small to mid-size shops shaping moldings, profiles, and joinery.

The Oliver 4705 steps up to 5HP or 7.5HP, heavier cast-iron mass, interchangeable spindles, and production-ready features like a digital height readout and dovetail spindle adjustment. If you need maximum stability, more power, and repeatable accuracy for long runs, choose the 4705.

Do Oliver shapers come with reversible spindles?

Yes. Both the Oliver 10047 and Oliver 4705 include a reversible spindle, giving you more control over grain direction to minimize tear-out and improve finish quality. This also expands cutter compatibility and shaping options.

What size spindle does an Oliver shaper use?

The 10047 includes a standard 1-1/4" spindle, with other sizes available as accessories.

The 4705 includes both ¾" and 1-1/4" spindles out of the box, plus optional sizes for advanced shaping setups.
