Standard drum sanders spin on a fixed axis for reliable, consistent sanding. Oscillating models add a side-to-side motion that reduces sanding marks and helps the abrasive run cooler, which makes them a better choice for hardwoods and figured grain.

What does single pass and double pass mean on a drum sander?

Single pass is the maximum width the drum can sand in one direction. Double pass means you flip the workpiece end-for-end and run it through again, effectively doubling your sanding width. A 16-32 sander handles boards up to 16" wide in a single pass or up to 32" wide with a double pass.

Can I use a JET drum sander for both solid wood and sheet goods?
