Nova Neutron 55800 17″ Direct Drive Lathe FAQs

What is the difference between a direct drive lathe and a belt drive lathe?

A direct drive lathe has no belts or pulleys between the motor and spindle. On the Nova Neutron, the spindle is part of the motor, so power goes straight to the work. You get steady torque at low speeds, quiet running, and no belt changes when you move between speeds.

Can the Nova Neutron run on 110V power?

Yes. The Neutron is listed for 110V and 240V input. Motor output is 1.75 HP on 110V and 2 HP on 240V. Both give you the full 50 to 5,000 RPM speed range.

Can I turn bowls larger than 17 inches on the Nova Neutron?

Yes. The Neutron swings 17″ over the bed. The headstock swivels 360° and slides the full length of the bed for outboard turning. With the optional outrigger, outboard capacity reaches 28″.

Does the Nova Neutron lathe have a brake?

Yes. The electronic brake stops the workpiece in seconds. The Neutron also has load spike detection, which steps in when power draw jumps during a catch. A slow start mode brings large or off-balance blanks up to speed gradually, and an electronic lockout code secures the lathe when you step away.
