Tormek T8 and T4 machines handle knives, chisels, plane irons, turning tools, carving tools, scissors, and axes with the correct Tormek jig. The jigs keep angles steady, which is especially helpful on gouges and specialty shapes. Because the wheels run slowly in water, you can work right up to the edge without risking burns. The range of compatible jigs is the same on the T4 and T8.

A Tormek sharpener uses a slow-turning, water-cooled grindstone to shape the bevel and a leather honing wheel to remove the burr. Water keeps the edge cool and prevents burning or losing temper. Jigs hold your tools at a fixed angle so you can repeat the same edge every time. The system is built for controlled grinding rather than fast metal removal.

Water cools the steel so the bevel never overheats or turns blue. It also washes steel particles into the trough rather than into the air. The Tormek T-8 Black was a limited anniversary model and is no longer available. Its sharpening performance is the same as the standard Tormek T-8, so you aren’t giving up capability by choosing the current model. For long-term shop use, the standard T-8 remains the most stable and precise option in the lineup.
