Choosing a 24 Inch Bandsaw

Every saw in this class shares a 24 inch wheel, but resaw capacity is not the same across brands. This is the one size class where wheel diameter and actual cutting height diverge the most.

Here are some things to consider when choosing a 24 inch bandsaw:

  • Resaw capacity: The Powermatic PM2415B and PM2415BT cut up to 15 inches high despite the 24 inch wheel. The Laguna 24BX cuts the full 24 inches on the same wheel size.
  • Motor power and phase: All three run 5 HP. The PM2415B and PM2415BT offer single-phase and three-phase options, while the 24BX runs 230V single-phase only.
  • Table coating: The PM2415BT adds an ArmorGlide coated table. The PM2415B and 24BX use standard uncoated cast iron.
  • Weight and table height: Powermatic's models run just over 1,000 pounds. The 24BX is lighter at 580 pounds.

Once you know how much resaw height you actually need, the choice between these three comes down quickly.
