JET Jointers FAQs

What is the difference between a straight knife and helical head JET jointer?

Straight knife jointers are reliable and easy to sharpen. Helical head jointers use carbide insert cutters arranged in a spiral pattern. They run quieter, leave a cleaner surface on figured grain, and the individual inserts rotate when dull rather than requiring a full knife change.

What size JET jointer do I need?

A 6" jointer handles most face and edge jointing for typical shop work. If you regularly joint boards wider than 5", or work with rough or wide lumber, the JET 8" JWJ-8CS or JET 8" JWJ-8HH-BLK will give you more capacity and stability.

Do JET jointers come with a stand?

The JJ-6HHBT is a benchtop model without a stand. The JJ-6CSDX, JJ-6HHDX, JWJ-8CS, and JWJ-8HH-BLK all include a closed cabinet stand.
