What is a jointer planer combo machine?

A jointer planer combines two machines into one. The jointer flattens a face and squares an edge. The planer then brings the board to a consistent thickness. Combining both in one machine saves floor space and keeps your setup efficient. JET jointer planers are built to switch between functions without removing the fence or resetting alignment.

What is the difference between straight knives and a helical head on a jointer planer?

Straight knives cut in a single pass and are easy to replace. A helical head uses rows of small carbide inserts that cut at a shear angle, producing a smoother finish with less tear-out on figured or difficult grain. The JET JPJ-12BHH uses a 42-insert helical head. The JET JPJ-12B uses straight knives.

Which JET jointer planer is best for a small shop?

The JET JJP-8BT is the most compact option, running on 13 Amps with an 8" cutting width. It sits on a benchtop, making it a practical fit for shops with limited floor space. The JET JJP-10BTOS adds 2" of width and includes a stand if you need a bit more capacity.
