Can I change how fast the Tormek Original Grindstone cuts?

Yes. The SG Original Grindstone can be adjusted with the SP-650 Stone Grader to act coarser for faster steel removal or finer for a smoother finish. That’s what makes it the best “do most jobs” wheel.

Can I use the SP-650 Stone Grader on every Tormek wheel?

No. The SP-650 is for grindstones that are designed to be graded (like the SG). It is not for diamond wheels, and it does not “change grit” on waterstones. Use it only where the wheel is intended to be adjusted.

When do I need the TT-50 Truing Tool?

Use the TT-50 when a grindstone has gone out of round, has a groove, or you want it perfectly true again. It’s also the right tool when you need a clean, straight wheel face for accurate bevel work on stones.

Are CBN wheels for Tormek worth it?

A CBN wheel for Tormek can work, but most options are third party and the wet or dry rules vary by brand. Some are meant to run dry, and others require careful drying after use to avoid corrosion. If you want the simplest setup on a water cooled system with clear manufacturer guidance, Tormek’s own wheels are usually the safer choice.

Can I swap between different wheels on the same Tormek machine?

Yes. Many users keep different wheels for different jobs (shaping, general sharpening, polishing). The key is choosing wheels that match the work you do most, then swapping when you need a different cut rate or finish.
